From the first day I met Iris, I was taken by her charm. It was so refreshing and uplifting to be around someone her age yet full of presence in life. Iris had this tender, gentle smile at all times. You could see it in her eyes.

When I was working on my personal project Migrant Mothers of Australia, I looked for ways to include one of her photographs but in the end it didn’t work out. Iris passed away recently and I’m so glad I photographed her one last time. In this picture I wanted to record the beauty of her age and also the freshness of her beautiful great grand daughter. Iris had an amazing relationship with her family which I always admired. Her family received a beautiful print of this picture and Iris got to see it, too. One little thing to remind myself why I love what I do.
